Who Can Apply for Minister of Religion Permission

An applicant may apply for permission to enter the State and work as a Minister of Religion if they meet the following criteria:

  • They are a non-EU/EEA and non-Swiss citizen.
  • They are a qualified, ordained, or professed member of a religious body or faith community that meets the required criteria.
  • They have been offered a role as a Minister of Religion by the same body or community of which they are a qualified, ordained, or professed member.
  • They and their family (if applicable) will be fully supported financially by themselves or their sponsoring religious body/faith community for the entire duration of their stay in Ireland.
  • They have at least 3 years of verifiable experience as a Minister of Religion (evidence required).
  • They can provide a police clearance certificate from their country of residence (not older than 3 months).
  • They have been vetted by An Garda Síochána to work with children and vulnerable adults in Ireland (evidence required).
  • They have medical insurance from a provider authorised by the Health Insurance Authority of Ireland, covering themselves and their family (if applicable) for the entire duration of their stay.
  • If they wish for their family (spouse/partner and children under 18) to join them in Ireland, their sponsor must be able to financially support their entire family for the full duration of their stay.

Duration and Renewal of Minister of Religion Permission

Successful applicants will initially be granted permission for up to three years, with the possibility of a further three-year extension, subject to compliance with immigration conditions.
