Preclearance Approval Letter for Ministers of Religion

A preclearance procedure applies to both visa-required and non-visa-required non-EEA nationals seeking entry to Ireland as a Minister of Religion. This procedure is subject to periodic review by the Department of Justice.

Requirement for Preclearance Approval

To be granted permission to enter and work in Ireland as a long-stay Minister of Religion, an applicant must present a valid Preclearance Approval Letter.

Eligibility and Duration

  • Approved applicants may stay in Ireland for up to three years, provided they can demonstrate a genuine need for their services.
  • All applicants must comply with all applicable immigration requirements.

Mandatory Preclearance for Non-EEA Nationals

All non-EEA nationals (both visa-required and non-visa-required) must obtain preclearance from Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) under the Department of Justice and Equality before traveling to Ireland to work as a Minister of Religion.

Application Process

  • Applicants must apply for preclearance before traveling to Ireland.
  • The applicant must reside outside Ireland while submitting the application.
  • The applicant must remain outside the State while awaiting a decision.

Entry Restrictions Without Preclearance

An applicant will not be permitted entry to Ireland to work as a long-stay Minister of Religion unless they can present a valid Preclearance Approval Letter upon arrival.
