Work & Employment Visa Applications

Overview

Visa-required nationals who have been granted an Employment Permit by the Department of Business, Enterprise, and Innovation (DBEI) must apply for a Long Stay D Visa from Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) before they can enter Ireland for employment.

Applicants must submit specific documentation to support their Employment Visa Application.

Required Documents for an Employment Visa

The following documents should be submitted as part of the application:

General Application Documents

  • Signed Application Summary – Generated after completing the online application.
  • Passport-Sized Photographs – Two recent coloured photographs (no older than six months).
  • Original Passport and Copies – Current passport (valid for at least six months after the intended departure date) and full copies of any previous passports.
  • Signed Letter of Application – Must include:
    • Full contact details.
    • Purpose of travel and intended duration of stay.
    • Details of any family members in Ireland.
    • Accommodation details in Ireland.
    • Declaration stating the applicant will comply with visa conditions, not become a burden on the State, and will leave upon visa expiry.

Employment-Related Documents

  • Employer’s Letter – Signed and issued on official company letterhead, confirming:
    • Job title and description.
    • Duration of employment contract.
    • Salary details.
    • Confirmation of accommodation arrangements (if applicable).
  • Original Employment Permit – Issued by the DBEI.
  • Signed Employment Contract – A copy of the official employment contract signed by both parties.
  • Evidence of Qualifications & Work Experience – Documents supporting the applicant’s education and professional background.

Financial & Visa History Documents

  • Bank Statements – Latest six-month account statements, showing:
    • Transactions in and out of the account.
    • Sufficient funds to cover costs in Ireland.
    • Statements must be on bank letterhead (internet printouts are not accepted).
    • Any large deposits must be explained.
    • If submitting a savings account statement, a letter from the bank must confirm permission to withdraw funds.
  • Previous Visa Refusals – If the applicant has ever been refused a visa for any country, the original refusal letter must be submitted.

Additional Requirements

  • Health & Travel Insurance – May be requested during visa processing and is required upon entry into Ireland.
  • Visa Application Fee€60.00.
  • Translations (if applicable) – Any document not in English must be fully translated. Each translation must include:
    • Confirmation from the translator that it is an accurate translation.
    • Date of translation.
    • Translator’s full name, signature, and contact details.

Employment Permit Requirement

All non-EEA nationals (unless exempt) must hold a valid Employment Permit before working in Ireland. The Employment Permits Section of the DBEI administers this system. Applicants should ensure they meet all permit conditions before applying for a visa.
