Applying for a Residence Card as an EU Family Member in Ireland

If a non-EEA family member wishes to reside in Ireland with an EEA or Swiss national, they must apply for a residence card after entering the country.

Benefits of an EU Residence Card

A successful residence card application grants the holder:
✔️ Permission to reside in Ireland for five years.
✔️ The right to work, study, and travel in and out of Ireland freely.
✔️ Access to various other benefits associated with residency.

Application Process

1️⃣ Submit the Correct Application Form:

  • EUTR1 Form → For qualifying family members (spouse, children, dependent parents, etc.).
  • EUTR1A Form → For permitted family members (extended family, durable partners, etc.).
  • The forms can be accessed on the relevant Irish immigration website.

2️⃣ Processing Timeline:

  • Applications must be processed within six months from the date of submission.

3️⃣ Registration with Irish Immigration:

  • Once approved, applicants must register with the Irish Immigration Authorities to receive their residence card.

What If the Application is Refused?

If the application is unsuccessful, the applicant has the right to request a review under Regulation 25.

✔️ The review request must be submitted within 15 working days of receiving the refusal letter.
✔️ The request must be made using Form EUTR4.

This process ensures that non-EEA family members of EU citizens can lawfully reside in Ireland under EU Treaty Rights.
